Algonquin Picture Dictionary - A Cultural and Educational Resource

The Algonquin Picture Dictionary app is a free educational and reference tool available on Android. It is developed by the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation Tribal Council and funded by the Government of Canada, Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec, Canadian Malartic Mining Company, and First Nations Confederacy of Cultural Education Centres (FNCCEC).

The app features beautiful culturally-based illustrations drawn specifically for the spiral-bound Algonquin Picture Dictionary. It contains approximately 450 words separated into 26 subject categories and includes three languages throughout the book. Eight Algonquin dialects are included within the app. The written translation work required was provided by a fluent speaker from each of the seven Algonquin communities that participated in the project.

The Algonquin Picture Dictionary app is an easy and useful tool that can assist with expanding the vocabulary for any age to speak Anishinabemowin. With approximately 3,600 carefully edited audio files, it is an excellent resource for learning the language. The app is a valuable cultural and educational resource that is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning about the Algonquin culture.
